Building Brighter Futures, One Stepping Stone at a Time
We're not just building housing. We're building the place where young people learn how to keep it.
A developing Ohio nonprofit — 501(c)(3) status pending; the Independence Campus is not yet operational
At Stepping Out Independence Program, we believe every young person deserves more than a place to sleep. They deserve the knowledge, confidence, opportunities, and community connections necessary to build a successful, independent life.
Our long-term vision is to create an Independence Campus — a welcoming community where housing stability, life-skills education, workforce preparation, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities come together.
For young people aging out of foster care, experiencing housing instability, or facing the challenges of adulthood without dependable support, we want to help create a bridge between surviving and thriving.
The Independence Campus
Our developing campus vision brings together several important elements.
Independence Campus — concept vision
A Place to Call Home
We envision small, comfortable independent-living cottages and future supportive housing opportunities for eligible young adults and families. Housing would be paired with practical education, guidance, and opportunities to develop the skills needed to maintain a stable home.
A Place to Learn and Grow
Our proposed career and workforce practice spaces would allow participants to explore trades, technology, culinary arts, digital media, outdoor careers, and other employment pathways. Through supervised learning and collaboration with qualified educators and local professionals, participants could develop confidence and practical experience.
A Place to Find Support
Our Independence Warehouse and Foster Resource Closet is already in development. This resource center is being designed to provide clothing, career wear, household supplies, and first-apartment essentials to foster youth and young adults preparing for employment and independent living.
A Place to Connect
We envision community spaces where volunteers, mentors, educators, businesses, and families can come together. Future gathering and event facilities could create opportunities for education, encouragement, community participation, and sustainable earned income.
A Place to Build a Future
From learning to manage a budget and prepare a meal to exploring a career, maintaining a home, and building healthy relationships, our goal is to help young people develop the everyday skills that make lasting independence possible.
Growing Our Mission Together
We are building this vision step by step.
Our community-based youth and adult programs are already providing opportunities to learn practical skills. Our foster resource closet is under development, and we are exploring properties, partnerships, funding, and professional guidance to advance the larger Independence Campus.
We welcome conversations with individuals, businesses, tradespeople, educators, community organizations, and potential sponsors who share our commitment to brighter futures.
Every donated resource, shared skill, volunteer hour, and meaningful partnership can help us take another step toward this vision.
The campus and its proposed residential facilities are not yet operational. Future development will depend on funding, suitable property, partnerships, and required approvals.
